is a high-power, Ethernet-embedded variable speed drive (VFD) from the Schneider Electric Altivar Machine 340 series. It is engineered for heavy-duty industrial machines, providing a rated power of 55 kW (75 HP) for heavy-duty applications and up to 75 kW (100 HP) for normal-duty use.
Key Specifications
Power Rating: 55 kW (75 HP) Heavy Duty / 75 kW (100 HP) Normal Duty.
Voltage: 3-phase, 380V to 480V AC.
Current Rating: 106 A (Heavy Duty) and 145 A (Normal Duty).
Embedded Communication: Multi-protocol Ethernet (EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP) plus Modbus Serial.
Safety Integrated: Standard embedded safety functions including Safe Torque Off (STO), Safe Stop 1 (SS1), and Safely Limited Speed (SLS).
Environment: Designed for harsh conditions with high temperature resistance up to 60C and integrated Class C3 EMC filter.
Design & Dimensions
This model uses the same large frame size as the 45 kW unit to handle higher thermal loads.
Width: 10.67 in (271 mm)
Height: 35.75 in (908 mm)
Depth: 12.17 in (309 mm)
Weight: ~127.65 lbs (57.9 kg)
The ATV340D55N4E functions as the high-capacity power engine for motors up to 55 kW (75 HP). At this scale, the drive is a heavy-duty powerhouse designed to manage massive current loads of up to 106 Amps continuously.
1. High-Current Industrial Control
Massive Torque Management: It functions to deliver 150%180% nominal torque for 2 seconds. This is critical for 75 HP applications like industrial shredders, heavy-duty centrifuges, and large-scale mining conveyors that require immense force to start under full load.
Normal Duty Expansion: It can be configured to run a 75 kW (100 HP) motor (up to 145 Amps) for "Normal Duty" tasks like large HVAC fans or centrifugal pumps where high starting torque is not needed.
2. High-Speed Communication (The "E" Function)
Dual-Port Ethernet: The integrated ports function as a high-speed data bridge. This allows the drive to report high-resolution performance metrics (current, torque, vibration) to a PLC or SCADA system in real-time.
Redundancy: It supports Device Level Ring (DLR). If one network cable is damaged, the drive continues to function and communicate via the second port, preventing a shutdown of a 75 HP process.
3. Integrated Power Infrastructure
Internal DC Choke: Because 100+ Amps can create significant electrical noise, the built-in DC Choke functions to filter harmonics. This ensures the drive doesn't cause interference for other sensitive factory electronics.
Thermal Intelligence: Dissipating roughly 1,300 Watts of heat, the drives high-volume forced-air system functions to keep the electronics cool even in ambient temperatures up to 60C (with derating).
4. Advanced Safety & Braking
Native Machine Safety: It provides Safe Torque Off (STO) and Safe Stop 1 (SS1) at a SIL3/PLe level. This allows for safe operator intervention without needing massive, expensive external safety contactors for a 75 HP motor.
Regenerative Power Handling: Includes a built-in braking transistor. When stopping a 75 HP spinning mass, it functions to safely divert that kinetic energy to an external resistor, preventing an "Overvoltage" trip.
